Firstborn: Progress Report 2017-01-22

For this week's blog, we take a quick look at some of the improvements that have come to Firstborn in the last couple of weeks.

Animated Terrain:

One major improvement offered by GameMaker Studio 2 is support for animated tilesets. It is now possible to have all manner of miscellaneous animations within the game world without significantly impacting framerate. The video above shows our first pass, with the Sea of Tar and the wall spikes now each sporting an idle animation. Many more animated elements will be coming to the battlefields of Firstborn soon.

60 FPS:

Previously, Firstborn had been capped at a maximum of 30 frames per second. As of now, Firstborn runs consistently at 60 FPS. We plan to allow the player to adjust the FPS cap in the settings by full release.

New Music:

Firstborn now has an new music track for gameplay, and another on the way for menus, courtesy of our new composer. We will be rolling through quite a few new tracks in the coming weeks.

Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed this week's development update. Join us next week for more behind-the-scenes dev stuff!
